Upcycled Back to School Craft

Last week I was able to get together with my good friend, J., for an enjoyable day of crafting and chatting.  I had been to the thrift store earlier scouting out items to repurpose when I found the perfect recycled item to make this cute upcycled back to school craft.  You could make these as fun kid’s activity and also give them as a teacher gift.Upcycled Back to School Blocks - Organized 31

Start with some Jenga blocks or any type of wood that is well sanded. I found a mixed bag of Jenga blocks at the thrift store for $1.25.Upcycled Back to School Blocks - Organized 31

We just painted one side of each block with craft paint, but you could paint the entire block if you wanted.Upcycled Back to School Blocks - Organized 31

We let the paint dry well, which took about 30 minutes.  Then we used paint pens and sharpies to decorate the blocks.  Your imagination (and painting skills) are the limit.  We chose to make a chalk board, a ruler and an iconic pink eraser.  The entire project took about 45 minutes with drying time and cost pennies since we already had the craft paint, paint pens and Sharpies.Upcycled Back to School Blocks - Organized 31

The great thing about this upcycled back to school craft is that you can still use the block to play a game of Jenga.  It would be cute to decorate an entire set as a teacher gift.

Hi Susan – I love it when J comes to visit you… it seems like you always have fun together and make super cute things. What a fun idea to make these blocks for a back to school craft. Perfect for a teacher gift or even on a mantle to celebrate the season. Hugs, Holly
