We suffered through months of construction to have our basement finished. I haven’t shared about it yet because it’s still too raw. To give you an idea how it went, it was supposed to take 4-6 weeks and took over 16 weeks (not because of problems, just poor management by the contractor). But I’m happy to say that the basement is completed and even almost entirely decorated. (Being able to say that makes me so very happy!) As in many basements, we had an electrical panel that had to be hidden somehow. The solution was a bit strange until I found the perfect decorating solution from WallPops.com.
Fortunately, I discovered WallPops.com and the hundreds of wall decals that they have available. I had a lightbulb moment bing! and realized that I could make the barn door look like a window if I added a picture. Since this is my Hawaiian-themed room, I knew I wanted to add a tropical scene and found the Island Photo panel on WallPops.com.
When I opened it, the panels were wrinkled from being rolled up in the packaging, so I laid them out on a table with books on them. After a couple of days the creases were mostly gone. (the photo is before books)
Lining the 2 panels of the decal up on the wall was a bit tricky until I thought to use masking tape to hold the panels together. I simply taped the front of the picture along the entire seam, positioned my decal and then removed the masking tape.
I trimmed the photo to fit into the frame of the “barn door” and now it looks like a framed window looking out onto a beautiful beach. It is the perfect solution for that formerly awkward door.
