I have a confession.  I’m terrified of using a saw of any type.  I don’t want to take the time to psychoanalyze why, but let’s just say it limits some of the projects I’d like to do.  I’ve seen those lovely holiday blocks that people make and have wanted to make some of my own for several years. But…I’d have to use a saw, so I haven’t made any.  This year is different, I’m making my own Thanksgiving blocks from repurposed game blocks.

You may remember when I found these Jenga game blocks at my local thrift store.  I’ve been having lots of fun making all different kids of crafts with them.  But today, I’m thrilled to show you a super easy way to make your own Thanksgiving blocks with these game blocks and no saw is needed.

Thanksgiving Blocks

Supplies

Jenga blocks

Hot glue gun

Decorative paper

Letter Stickers

Mod Podge

Raffia

Paper Cutter or Scissors

Hot glue two Jenga blocks together.  Make enough glued blocks to spell out your sentiment.

It took 16 Jenga blocks to make the 8 blocks I needed to spell “thankful.”

Trim your decorative paper to fit the face of the blocks and Mod Podge the paper onto the blocks.  I was careful to keep the Mod Podge only on the back of the paper to maintain the matte look of the decorative paper.

Add the letters to spell your sentiment and add raffia to embellish the blocks.

These blocks were to so easy to make and there wasn’t a saw of any kind used. The entire process took about 20 minutes and that includes about 10 minutes of agonizing over selecting the decorative paper.

I couldn’t wait to put them up in my dining room.

I’m going to be on the look out for more game blocks because these Thanksgiving blocks from recycled game blocks would make wonderful gifts.

  1. These are so cute! I don’t have a lot of Thanksgiving decoration, so I need to go out and find some old Jenga blocks. This project could be used for any holiday and you are right – they would make a great gift.

  2. Hi Susan – I saw your article on G+ before the actual post. LOVE this idea and I’m with you… terrified of using a saw. No reason to ever use one. This would also be a great hostess gift if you are traveling somewhere for Thanksgiving. Happy Turkey time! Hugs, Holly

ps – we also have some of those figurines in our dining room! I specifically recognize the boy talking to the rabbit 🙂

  4. Wow! I didn’t realize you put 2 blocks together. I’m kicking myself for getting rid of our Jenga blocks. The kids decided they didn’t want to play with them anymore.
