Who loves Dr. Seuss? Me!  Me! I love Dr. Seuss.  I  love him with juice. I love him with mousse.  I love Dr. Seuss with a goose.  I love him, love him,  that’s the truth.  Sorry.  Couldn’t help myself.  Dr. Seuss Day is March 3rd this year.  And no matter how  much I plan for it, it always seems to sneak up on me.  Just in case you’re in the same boat (with a goat? sorry!) that Sam I am, here is a super quick and easy Dr. Seuss costume idea and it’s perfect for a variety of Dr. Seuss character costumes.

With three children, I’ve had my share of last-minute, mom’s-in-a-panic costume DIYs. The great thing about Dr. Seuss costumes is that they’re easy and fun to make. So, don’t worry if you’re reading this just hours before you need to produce a Dr. Seuss themed costume.

I’m telling you, this one is embarrassingly easy (but then those are my favorite kind of projects).  Grab 2 or 3 pipe cleaners and a hat, a hair band or a hair clip.  (I had to add the hat ’cause there is no way my son was going to wear a hair band or hair clip!)

I used 2 pipe cleaners. I bent one to make 2 slightly shorter sprouts (what are those things on Dr. Seuss character heads?  hair?  antennae?  something else?).  Bend the bottom of the longer pipe cleaner to use to attach the sprouts.

Twist your pipe cleaners together and use the tail of the longer one to secure the pipe cleaners together by wrapping it once or twice around the base.  Bend your pipe cleaners in fun, wacky Dr. Seuss-ish ways.

Attach the sprout under the button on the top of your hat, or through one of the air holes.

If you’re using a hair band or hair clip, just attach the sprout securely. Ta da!  You’ve got the easiest Dr. Seuss costume ever!  You could add a bright solid color tee-shirt to complete your quick and easy Dr. Seuss character costume.

  1. I love this and I love Dr. Seuss too. I remember have his books when I was young and introduced them to my daughter when she was young too! This is a great and easy craft and one I know kids would love – heck I would be proud to wear them also!
