I’ve had a tough past year. I had two unexpected surgeries and learned that I have two chronic health issues. My mom always said, “Getting old isn’t for the faint-hearted,” and after this year, I truly understand what she means. As a result, I’ve been focusing on taking better care of myself this year. I’ve made several changes to my lifestyle, including regularly taking vitamins. I’d made commitments to taking vitamins in the past, but in the middle of a hectic life always forgot to take them. With my new healthier lifestyle commitment, I’ve found tips for how to remember to take vitamins that work for me.  With the business of the holidays coming up, I know these tips will keep me on track as I focus on taking better care of myself.

Last year, I shared details about my emergency appendectomy (the worst the surgeon had seen in over a year).  I’ve always lived a fairly healthy lifestyle, but it was a real wake up call for me. I have been transitioning to clean eating recipes. I’ve been faithful about sticking to my exercise routine. Last month, I shared how I began taking probiotic supplements. Part of my challenge has been finding a way to establish new habits. It’s been a process of finding what works best for me and my life.  I’ve found these seven tips to remember to take vitamins work well for me.

I am not a medical professional. I am sharing what I’ve learned. Please always consult with your medical professional before taking new vitamins or supplements.

Tips to Remember to Take Vitamins

Commit to Establishing a New Habit

The first step is to acknowledge that you want to commit to establishing a new habit. Examine your motivations and commitment level. Make a serious commitment to investing the time necessary to establish a new habit, a habit with the goal of living a healthier lifestyle.

Find a New Habit Buddy

Find someone who also wants to establish a new healthier lifestyle habit and commit to reminding and supporting each other. Helping each other remember helps both of you and can give you the encouragement you need if you hit a tough time.

Choose Your Vitamins

Research which vitamins are the best choices for you and your goals. Discuss your choices with your medical professional.

Begin by carefully choosing which vitamin and supplement brand to purchase. Determine When to Take

Once you’ve chosen the vitamins you will be taking, determine if they should be taken with food or without and any other guidelines. Based on the recommendations and your daily schedule, decide when you want to take your vitamins each day. You want to take them at the same time every day to establish it as a habit. I choose to take my vitamins each morning with my breakfast. Taking them in the morning also gives me the rest of the day (as an insurance policy) to take them if I do forget to take them earlier.

Place Vitamins Where You’ll See Them

Create a visual reminder by placing your vitamins where you’ll readily see them each day. For example, if you’re going to take them at night, place them next to your toothbrush. Since I take my vitamins in the morning, I keep them in the cabinet near the coffee mugs.

Set Reminders

Set an alarm to go off each day as a reminder to take your vitamins. Use a reminder app to help you remember. Schedule your vitamins on your calendar. Once you’ve firmly established taking your vitamins as a habit then you may not have to rely on this tool as heavily.

Place Notes as Reminders

Place notes in your home, purse, backpack, car or wherever works best for you. When you are first establishing your habit, these notes can be very helpful in remembering. Place the notes in a different location each day so that you notice them more readily. Use this free printable to create your own remember your vitamins notes

I don’t have to wait for a sale to save and that’s one less thing this busy mom has to keep track of.
