I’ve been admiring the Graphics Fairy blog {here} for months now.  She has the most amazing stock graphics (means us crafty folks can use them with no problems).  I’m particularly in love with the look of the numbers she used in this project.

I’d been ruminating on what project I wanted to do with the numbers when my friend, K., gave me a bunch of plastic food tubs.  Does anyone else have friends who give you their trash and you’re thrilled or am I alone in this?

As soon as I saw these cocoa cans …. bing!  I knew I wanted to upcycle them into storage “tins” and use those gorgeous numbers.

I printed the numbers out on plain ol’ computer paper.  I rummaged through my card stock to find a color that would compliment the brown cocoa lid and the look of the numbers.  I came up with cream and brown.  If I do these again, a pomegranate red would look nice, too.

I used glue dot strips to stick the layers of paper down really well.  This was important since the box is not square (or rectangular) it’s kinda curved.

You need lots of strong glue to make sure that the card stock doesn’t pop off the curved can.  You can’t put too much glue along the the long strip of card stock.

I added card stock on the lid to cover the brand logo and to provide space to add a written label.

I’m really pleased with the way they turned out. The simplicity and dignity of the numbers is beautiful. And, of course, I love that the beauty is being put to good organizational use.

The project only took about 5 – 10 minutes. (I’m starting to think that most of my projects are super quick ones. Hmmm.)

I decided to share the happiness of these gorgeous “tins” with my friend, K. She liked them as much as I do. I’m just hoping that her family uses a lot of cocoa soon so we can make more of these gorgeous useful “tins”.
