I originally got this recipe from 2 dear friends of mine, C. and D and I share it with you below. In the past I’ve added kielbasa sausage to the recipe. This time I popped over to my local Safeway to pick up Hillshire Farm American Craft sausage, which is part of the Hillshire Brands, and try it in my recipe. Adding sausage to a dish is a great way to add protein and flavor to your meal. My entire family agrees that the American Craft sausage noticeably improved the flavor of the red beans and rice. - 1 lb dried red beans
- 7 cups water
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 5 stalks of celery, chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 package Hillshire American Craft Garlic & Onion Sausage, sliced
- 2-3 Tbps Creole seasoning
- Mix ingredients in slow cooker.
- Cook on high for 7 hours.
- Serve over rice.
- Garnish with chopped bell pepper and celery.
