Pass the Love Back Youth Soccer Program

I grew up playing soccer on a community coed rec team. I have great memories of our team, the camaraderie of the players and the important life lessons I learned from my coaches and teammates. My children have played soccer for years, for a total of 18 seasons in four different states. We have wonderful memories of their soccer experiences and I know that they learned essential life skills from their participation.

I’m a big supporter of our local youth soccer program. Fortunately you can support your local youth soccer program with the Pass the Love Back program that empowers local communities by helping sponsor local youth soccer teams. 

As a military family, my children have lived in seven states and one foreign country. They’ve seen many different local youth soccer programs. Some of our communities had top quality equipment and elaborate uniforms. Other communities we lived in had just an inexpensive tee-shirt as the uniform and poor quality fields and equipment. The disparity in the funding of local youth soccer programs was strikingly obvious in the different communities we lived in across the country. Communities often have to find their own ways to support themselves in supplying soccer equipment and resources. 

Children learn and practice essential skills in their formative youth. The obvious advantages of playing soccer is the physical exercise, strength, coordination and skills that are developed. But in addition to the physical aspect, there are individual life skills and social skills that are learned by participating in a community soccer program. A child learns to be responsible for attending practices and games. She learns to remember her uniform and equipment. She learns to balance the responsibilities of school, school work, practice and games. She also learns the social skills associated by being a part of a team and following a coach’s instructions. These are all skills that benefit children at the time on the soccer field and into other areas of their lives. Those skills also continue to benefit them into adulthood.
