Now that we’re done here are some tips that will help you maintain your newly organized spaces.

Get Rid of Those Decluttered Items Now – If you haven’t yet, take those donations in this week. Deliver the items you’re giving to friends or family members this week. Get those items you’ve removed out of your house now (or at least by the end of the week).

Take Time to Admire Your Hard Work – Take a few seconds each day to admire your newly decluttered and organized areas. Remind yourself how much you enjoy having the weight of all that stuff gone and how you’re able to enjoy life more in your new space.

Use the One In, One Out Method – Now that you’ve made more space in your home, don’t fall into the trap of filling your newly cleared space with new schtuff. Only bring an item in if you’re willing to get rid of an item at the same time. One new pair of shoes in, one old pair of shoes out. One new book in, one old book out. It’s simple if you stick with it.

Make Time for Decluttering Maintenance – We accomplished all this decluttering by just spending 10 minutes a day. Commit to spending 10 minutes a week to maintaining your newly organized home. Depending on your situation, you may need to go back and spend more time to be able to finish one (or some) of the tasks or you may want to do a refresher purging review of one of the tasks to maintain your new organized spaces.

You may find these monthlong decluttering calendars helpful in keeping up with maintenance.

Review Your Goals – You set both long-term and short-term goals when we were getting started with the challenge. Review those goals and revise them if necessary. Review your goals periodically to help keep yourself on track and motivated.
