Now that it’s a few days after Halloween, do you have this laying around your house?
Twix, Kit Kat, Hershey's Take 5, Butterfinger, M&Ms, Nestle Crunch on a white background

If you run out to the stores this week, you can find this 50% – 70% off.

After Halloween every year, I make sure that I stock up on after holiday chocolate candy.  You can buy anything chocolate that can be chopped.  Just avoid buying M&M’s that are colored for a specific holiday.

I chop the candy up and throw it in the freezer.  I freeze it to reduce the amount of candy that I steal, or at least that’s the theory.  But you can sometimes find me gnawing on a frozen piece of candy in an emergency.  Don’t tell my dentist!

Any time during November or December that I need to contribute cookies, like to office parties, neighborhood parties, cookies for deployed troops, church parties, hula parties (yes, you read that right), hockey parties, family parties, school parties, kid parties, whew!, I can quickly whip up a yummy batch of Candy Bar Cookies.

2/3 cup shortening                                            2/3 cup butter/margarine, softened
1 cup sugar                                                       1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs                                                               2 teaspoon vanilla
3 1/2 cup flour                                                  1 teaspoon baking soda
4 cups chopped candy bars ( you can add chocolate chips if you don’t have enough candy bars)

Preheat oven to 375F.
Mix shortening, butter/margarine, sugar, eggs and vanilla thoroughly.  Mix flour and baking soda together and then add to the butter mixture.  Add chopped candy bars.
Chill dough for 1 hour.
Drop dough by rounded teaspoonful onto ungreased cookie sheet.  Press down slightly to make larger, flatter cookies.
Bake 8 minutes or until just barely brown.
Cool slightly before removing from the cookie sheet.

These cookies are always a hit and so easy to make. Run out to the store now and pick up your discounted holiday candy so you’re ready to start baking.
