As a military family, many summers bring a new home and a new part of the country to get to know.  Our family makes an effort to visit attractions at each new assignment.  This is a great way to start to feel at home in a new area and to build family memories.  We were fortunate enough to visit Busch Gardens Williamsburg this week and I’m happy to be able to tell you that it’s the perfect destination for military families and for everyone.Busch Gardens Williamsburg for Military Families & Everyone - Organized 31 #sponsored

Busch Gardens Williamsburg is located in eastern VA right off of Interstate 64.  It’s conveniently located to many military bases and posts in Virginia.  You may be familiar with its beautiful gardens and amazing roller coasters, but you may not be aware of why it’s the perfect spot for families, and military families in particular.

1.  Busch Gardens supports the military and military families with their Waves of Honor program. This allows any U.S. active duty military, activated or drilling reservist, or National Guardsman one complimentary admission per year to either SeaWorld®, Busch Gardens®, Adventure Island®, Water Country USA®, or Sesame Place® or Aquatica SeaWorld’s Waterpark™ in San Diego for military personnel and as many as three direct dependents.

2.  Busch Gardens Williamsburg is located on Interstate 66 which is a popular travel route for military families PCSing or traveling.  Did you know that Busch Gardens Williamsburg has pet kennels available?  If you are traveling through Virginia, you could stop for a day of memory making with your family, board your pet at the kennel on the park premises and then continue along your journey with your pet at the end of the day. How perfect is that for a traveling military family (or any traveling family)?!

3. There are military themed souvenirs available in the gift shops. Pick your favorite military service, they’ve got them all represented.Busch Gardens Williamsburg for Military Families & Everyone - Organized 31 #sponsored

4.  The park has a wide variety of attractions for everyone in the family.  In addition to the rides, there are quite a few different shows.  We caught the charming This is Oktoberfest German-themed show while we ate lunch in Das Festhaus.  The entire family enjoyed the Celtic Fyre show in Abbey Stone Theater. Our entire family was smiling and clapping with the rest of the audience through the show featuring Irish songs and Irish dance mixed with American tap dance and all woven into a Broadway-style show.  It was a big hit with all 5 members of my family (and we’re a bunch of tough graders!)Busch Gardens Williamsburg for Military Families & Everyone - Organized 31 #sponsored

New this year is the London Rocks show that we caught in the Globe theater.  It features well-known British rock n’ roll with fun pop culture overlays.  The very large theater was full when we caught the rockin‘ show.Busch Gardens Williamsburg for Military Families & Everyone - Organized 31 #sponsored

In addition to the shows, I was interested to learn that Busch Gardens is committed to conservation and had several animal exhibits with rescued and rehabilitated animals. There are rehabilitated eagles at Eagle Ridge.Busch Gardens Williamsburg for Military Families & Everyone - Organized 31 #sponsored

We could see the wolves up close at Wolf Valley.Busch Gardens Williamsburg for Military Families & Everyone - Organized 31 #sponsored

And of course, there were Clydesdale horses.Busch Gardens Williamsburg for Military Families & Everyone - Organized 31 #sponsored

5.  The food was refreshingly tasty.  The ingredients were fresh and the food really did taste good.  My family kept commenting on how good the food was.Busch Gardens Williamsburg for Military Families & Everyone - Organized 31 #sponsored

We purchased 2 of these cups and were able to refill them all day long with soda for $.99, an Icee for $1.99 or ice water for no charge.  Hold onto those cups because you can use them all yearlong for the same discount.Busch Gardens Williamsburg for Military Families & Everyone - Organized 31 #sponsored

And if you’d prefer to pack your own lunch, there are picnic tables located near the parking lots so that you can eat your own meals.

We expected to have a great time riding the rides (which we did) but we were happily surprised at how many other fun activities there were for the whole family.  Busch Gardens Williamsburg has so much to offer military families and everyone.  You can find out more about Busch Gardens Williamsburg, or follow them on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.Busch Gardens Williamsburg for Military Families & Everyone - Organized 31 #sponsored

  1. Wow! What a great day you and your family had. I went to Busch Gardens at Christmas time and it was lit up so beautifully. After seeing your great write up, I know I need to head there before summer is over!

  2. Hi Susan – What a fun day for the family and I had no idea that BG did this for military families. Of course Hubby is sitting here saying, “yeah” as in… you didn’t know??? Many thanks to BG for a fun family park and also for supporting our military. I would be living at London Rocks all day! Great backstory BTW – back in the day, my cousin was a dancer in the magic show at the Globe Theater. It’s like you are friends with royalty now LOL! Thanks for sharing I think I pinned this on 4-5 boards! Hugs, Holly
