My son came home after a kindergarten Christmas program with an adorable decorated sweatshirt that he’d never wear again. How is it that I didn’t take a picture of him in the sweatshirt?  What a distracted Mom!  Poor third child.

Neither of us were ready to just toss or donate the sweatshirt, but I could see that he was too old to wear it outside of the program.

I packed it away and wondered what I should do with it for several months.  Then one day bing  the light bulb went off.

A quick trip to grab a pillow form, about 15 minutes of labor and voila!

He has an adorable pillow that makes us smile every December when we get it out as we decorate the house for Christmas

We chose to keep the neck on the pillow to clearly remind us this special pillow was once his actual sweatshirt.

Even 5 years later, this pillow makes us both stop and smile each December morning when my son makes his bed.  A win-win-win (a keepsake, a smile every morning for a month, and a shared smile between mommy-now-mom and her son)!

  1. That’s so great that you made a keepsake out of it! I got my grandson (3 yrs old) & granddaughter (9 months old) matching shirts for Christmas this year. They are red with a cute appliqued Santa face. My granddaughter’s is a 9 month size onsie so she won’t be able to wear it again. But I was a little smarter & got my grandson a size 4 instead of a size 3 so he can wear it again next year. But after that we can make them into little pillows like you did! Thanks for sharing! And if you have a minute check out the cute Peppermint theme recycled water bottle wreath I made for Christmas at:

  2. I have cut apart some of my granddaughter’s old clothing and eventually want to make a throw out of them for her. Your pillow is a great idea!

  3. I love this idea! What a great way to hold on to favorite clothing that’s been outgrown. 🙂

Just wanted to let you know I featured them on my blog today! Stop by and grab a button if you want!
