It’s been over 2 weeks since I sent my oldest baby her first care package of her first year at college.  In an effort to keep busy and not think too much about missing her, I’ve made my daughter a second  college care package and it focuses on personal care items this time.
Whenever I’m sending homemade baked goods, I always make sure to send the package Priority Mail so that the baked goods will still be fresh.  I find it easiest to use the Priority Mail box.  You’ll be surprised how much you can fit into that box.

My daughter’s now been away at college for almost a month.  She’s already commented on the cost of purchasing items.  It’s funny how they don’t care about cost when you’re buying that special request item, but when they have to budget to buy it, they’re suddenly concerned about the price. (knowing mama smile).  This seemed like the perfect time to send her a personal care items care package as a surprise.

I sent her a wall art project I made for her (tutorial coming soon) and a few snack and treats.  I know that she’s using flash cards for her Spanish vocabulary words and there’s not a cheap source of index cards nearby (only expensive college stores).  I found a small package of dry cleaning sheets so that she can clean some of her dry clean only clothing items rather than paying for dry cleaning (or go longer than I can stand to know about without cleaning them).  I had to include a small package of homemade brownies, because what says love and care-package-from-home more than homemade brownies?

Okay, now to the personal care items.  My daughter managed to come down with a cold the first week she was at college.  Although, I did send her to college with a first aid kit, I included in her care package some purse packs of tissues, some menthol vapor rub, cough drops and purse-sized hand sanitizer (what can I say?  I’m a worrying mama).  With cold weather coming soon, I sent her some of her favorite hand lotion.  It’s the kind of thing only a mama would think to send and I know she’ll appreciate it because she mentioned she couldn’t find it in the store there.

I made sure to include a pack of WaterWipes natural baby wipes.  I recently received WaterWipes to try and I’m very impressed with them.   You can find them at Giant Eagle, Martin’s, Stop N Shop and Giant Food in the states of CT, DC, DE, MA, MD, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VA, WV.They’re the only baby wipes on the market with absolutely no chemicals, just 99.9% water and .1% grapefruit seed extract.  Because WaterWipes contain mostly water, they can be used by anyone ,from babies to adults, with sensitive skin.  They’re the only wipes to ever be approved by the Independent Allergy UK and can be used to help prevent diaper rash.   I used the wipes at home and found that they clean my hands without drying them out or leaving them feeling sticky like some wipes do. The wipes are perfect for a college student to wipe up after eating a snack or refresh before bed without having to trek down the hall to the bathroom.  I know my daughter will find many uses for her package of WaterWipes in her dorm room.  You can learn more about WaterWipes by following them on Facebook and Twitter.

Of course, I added a note  from mama and added a couple of cards that I had friends and family write at my daughter’s graduation party.  I used empty plastic shopping bags to pad the box.  The bags are great for packing since they’re lightweight and my daughter can use them as trash bags (saving her from grumbling about the cost of buying trash bags).

    1. Holly, sending care packages helps distract me from missing my baby. And these wipes really are nice and not chemical-ly.

    1. Thanks, Cynthia. Wish I could be there to take care of her, but she knows I’m thinking of her when she gets a care package.
