Do you know a D & D fan?  I’ve got one in my family and we had a birthday party for my son recently.  He had friends over to play Dungeons and Dragons.  They’re tweens and too old for traditional gift bags, so I made a DIY Dungeons and Dragons Drawstring Bag for the game dice they received.
I am really not a seamstress, so if I can sew this drawstring bag then it really is easy. Honestly.

I purchased this fabric as a remnant, so I simply cut it into 4 pieces to make the 4 bags I needed.  But the dimensions of the fabric were roughly 11 1/2 inches by 9 1/2.  I sewed the rectangle together so that it made a bag.  Then I turned 1 inch down, plus 1/4 inch turned under at the top.  I sewed 2 seams around the top to make a casing for the drawstring.

Using a seam ripper, I opened the side seam between the two rows of stitching so that I could insert the drawstring

Because these boys are playing D&D together every week, I wanted to add their initials to the bags to help them keep track of their dice.  I used black embroidery thread with one strand of gold thread to embroider the initials.

If I had this to do over, I’d embroider the initials first before I sewed the bags up.

These drawstring bags have helped the boys keep track of their dice and not lose any (yet).

These DIY Dungeons and Dragons Drawstring Bags were the perfect party favor gift bag for a tween boy’s D&D birthday party.

  1. I really love these game bags! My daughter recently got involved with D and D and she really enjoys it. I will see if she would like a bag like this! Love the addition of the initials!

      1. Thanks, Janice. They were easy to make (so I was happy) and my son thought they were cool (so we were both happy).

  2. This reminds me of the little bag I used to keep my marbles in when I was little. Now I’ve lost all my marbles. Hahahaha! I do love this idea for all sorts of small game pieces though. Might be making one of these up for my Jenga tiles since our box bit the dust. And no, I’m not considering repurposing them instead. 🙂

  4. My husband still plays D&D years later. When he was in the military, we used to have game nights where it would either be at our house or someone else’s house. If I made him a few of these I think he’d be ecstatic. Thanks for the ideas! 🙂

    1. Suzette, sounds you like you’d earn some big time wife points if you made a couple of these bags for your husband. Happy to help 🙂
