I enjoy receiving handmade gifts and if you’ve been here before, you know I enjoy giving them. This year I’m focusing on giving even more handcrafted gifts. This DIY personalized gift can be made in about 10 minutes and can be made for less than a dollar.
It all started with 3 bowls that I picked up for free on Freecycle, but you could easily find a similar bowl for around $.50. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with the bowls (I couldn’t just use them, I had to repurpose them, of course), but I’ve held onto them for a couple of months. The Easy Sharpie Dot Mug and the Sharpie Dotted Cup I made a few months ago have been calling my name. This time I wanted to make something even quicker, like 10 minutes quick.
So I grabbed a pencil and glass paint marker (but you could use a regular ol’ Sharpie since you won’t be washing this bowl). I sketched the words I wanted in pencil. If you make a mistake with the pencil you can just smudge it right off with your thumb.
Once you have your words or name where you want it, just trace over it with the paint pen or Sharpie.
My bowl came with the black stripe, but you could add one with ceramic paint.
Adding a note inside the bowl makes it that much more personalized.
This sweet little bowl would make a wonderful Mother’s Day gift and it could be made by the kiddos (with some supervision depending on their age).
There you have it. In 10 minutes you can make your own DIY personalized gift. I don’t know what’s better – it’s a repurposed gift, it’s a frugal gift, it’s a handmade gift or that it’s an organizing gift. What do you think?
I’m a mom of 3, a veteran and military spouse. I’ve moved into 20+ homes all around the world. My passion is helping busy people make the space and time for what’s really important to them.
I love this bowl! I have to agree with you, I don’t know if I love it because it is too stinking cute, frugal or repurposed! Such a great idea and I know my heart would melt every time I saw the, “I love you”! Great ideas
I love this! I can’t get over how simple it is but it is something I would definitely use and cherish if someone gave it to me. This specific one even matches my bathroom where I can picture it on my vanity. Like Cynthia, I think every time I looked at it, I’d be warmed by the thought that someone loves me.
