Last summer was the first time I ever tie-dyed anything.  Since then, I’ve been having fun finding new household items to tie-dye. My newest favorite is DIY tie-dyed dish towels.  How fun are these dish towels?!! They’d make great gifts for a recent graduate or as a cheery wedding shower gift.

DIY Tie-Dyed

You can complete most of this project in an afternoon.  You will have to let the dye set overnight and then rinse and wash the towels the next day, but that doesn’t take long.

Supplies

Tie-Dye Kit (mine is compliments of Tulip) – I like to use the kit because it has everything you’ll need to tie-dye

Cotton Dish Towels – be sure that they’re cotton for best results

Plastic Bags – I use recycled vegetable bags from the grocery store

Plastic Tablecloth or lots of newspaper

I chose to use rainbow colors and traditional tie-dye patterns on the dish towels.

I used the tie-dye swirl pattern on one towel.

And I used the accordion fold technique on the other dish towel and folded it starting at one corner and ending at the opposite corner.  This is my favorite of the two.  I love how bright and cheery it is.

The dish towels that I purchased have a waffle-weave texture that makes these tie-dye towels even more interesting up close.
