My family enjoys sharing snacks together on the weekend. It’s an opportunity for us to spend time together doing something we like and creating family memories. Everyone in my family, all five of us, like spicy food. Really like it. As a mother, I’m always looking for ways to sneak more vegetables into our diets. When love of snacks, love of spicy food and including more veggies collide – you get this easy fresh and spicy snack hack recipe. Really it’s a double snack hack that starts with Crispy Dill Pickles and Jalapeño Peppers.
I adapted my family’s favorite homemade salsa recipe to include more fresh vegetables and then added the salsa to #FarmRich snack freezer items. This is definitely an easy and delicious snack hack.
On my recent weekly trip to Walmart (it seems there’s always something I need to get at Walmart), I stopped by the Snacks & Appetizers aisle in the frozen food section to pick up Farm Rich Crispy Dill Pickles and Jalapeño Peppers.
Farm Rich is launching their Back Your Snack contest on August 1, 2015 and it runs through August 23, 1015. Contestants must use at least one #FarmRich product and one Walmart fresh item (fresh items are anything from the produce section, such as fruits and vegetables). You can add any additional items to your snack hack recipe that you’d like. The contest winner will receive $10,000. Entries are judged on the quality of the recipe and use of the required ingredients, not the quality of photography or images. Be sure to check out the Back Your Snack contest submission page to enter your creative snack hack recipe. For all the contest details, be sure to check out the rule book. There will be demos of the contest semi-finalists’ recipes conducted in select Walmart stores on September 19th and 20th. You can find a participating store near you so you can check out the brilliant snack hack recipes created. You can also see demos of the contest finalists’ recipes on October 9th and 11th at participating stores near you.
While you’re thinking about your own favorite snack hack recipes, let me share my family’s new favorite easy fresh and spicy snack hack recipe with you. It is as easy to prepare in just 15 minutes as it is delicious.
2 Tomatoes – or approximately 2 cups of grape tomatoes
1 Green Pepper
1 Jalapeno Pepper
1 Yellow Onion
2 Tsp Garlic Salt
Farm Rich Crispy Dill Pickles
Farm Rich Jalapeño Peppers
Preheat the oven and follow the directions on the box to cook the #FarmRich products.
While the Crispy Dill Pickles and Jalapeño Peppers are cooking, chop the vegetables to make the fresh homemade salsa. You can use a food processor to make chopping the veggies a bit quicker and easier. Add the garlic salt to taste, approximately 2 teaspoons. Mix well.
When the #FarmRich snacks are ready, simply top each item with a spoonful of fresh spicy salsa. You can also add a teaspoon or so of grated cheese if you’d like. Serve the homemade salsa with tortilla chips along side the snack hacks.
In just about 15 minutes, you’ve created two fresh and delicious snack hacks. It really couldn’t be any easier. And it’s a great way to work fresh vegetables into your family’s diet.
The tangy Crispy Dill Pickles are complimented by the fresh spicy salsa (my mouth is watering just describing it to you). And the melted cream cheese in the Jalapeño Peppers blends beautifully with the homemade salsa.
My family had such a wonderful time sharing two large plates of these easy fresh and spicy snack hacks while talking about our week’s events and watching our favorite superhero movie. Everyone agreed we need to share our new favorite snack hack again next weekend. What a perfect way to encourage everyone to want to spend more quality family time together.
