I’m not a big fan of in-your-face American flag tee-shirts.  But I do like subtle images of the flag on tees.  I also like quick, easy projects and this is a quick, easy one.

I got a 100% cotton tee because it’s softer (and who doesn’t love a soft tee?).  Be sure to wash it first, but do not use any fabric softener (it interferes with the paint some how).

My shirt came out a little wrinkled so I gave it a quick ironing.

Then I used painters tape to block out a simple flag shape.  Be sure to rub the edges of the tape down good so the paint doesn’t bleed under the tape.

I used a foam sponge brush to pounce and brush the fabric paint on for the stripes.  I used a small star rubber stamp to add the stars.  I found it easiest to use the foam brush to brush the paint onto the rubber stamp and then stamp the image onto the tee.

The taping and painting took me about 15-20 minutes.  The longest time was spent waiting for the paint to dry so that my daughter could model my new tee-shirt for me.  I’m very pleased with the way it turned out and can’t wait to wear it on the 4th of July.
