It’s that time of year when patriotic decorations come out, first for Memorial Day and later for the 4th of July.  As a veteran married to an active duty husband with most of my family having served in the military, honoring our veterans and military families is important to me.  I’m thrilled to join with 4 other bloggers that feel the same way in the Patriots Palooza Link Party.  Today I’m excited to share an easy painted patriotic decoration and  one of my favorite  charities that support  wounded veterans.Easy Painted Patriotic Decoration - Organized 31

I started this project thinking I’d Mod Podge some flag napkins onto these letters I found at Walmart (for about $1.50 each).  .  You know sometimes craft projects don’t go as planned (can I get  some crafter support on that one?).  Well, my hat is off to those of you who are able to decoupage a thin paper napkin onto a curved surface, but I wasn’t able to. Easy Painted Patriotic Decoration - Organized 31

So, Plan B kicked in and after sanding off the  pieces of napkin, I taped off the letters and painted them with craft paint that I already had. ( I like to use aluminum foil to cover my workspace when I paint or decoupage.  I find it easier to clean up.)Easy Painted Patriotic Decoration - Organized 31

Once the paint was dry, I used a rubber stamp and a craft ink pad to add stars.Easy Painted Patriotic Decoration - Organized 31

Although I ended up using Plan B, I’m pleased with the way my USA letters turned out.Easy Painted Patriotic Decoration - Organized 31

  2. Hi Susan – I’ve been racking my brain for a great DIY USA sign for the photo booth at the party. Can I borrow yours??? Love this – totally making this for the 4th of July or next year’s party. Thank you for co-hosting the Patriot’s Palooza party and Happy Memorial Day and thank you and your hubby for your service to our great country. Hugs, Holly

  3. What a simple idea that turned out great! I’ve been trying to think of something for my mantel that wouldn’t take me forever and wasn’t expensive to make. Thanks for letting me know that Walmart has them for only $1.50. Thanks for sharing!
