The other week we went to see a production at a very nice theater, which provided both quality entertainment and a more formal fashion opportunity. We jump at a chance to dress up a little. Velvet is a perfect formal winter fabric that can be worn even past the holidays.
I love the dark color palettes of winter dressing, and semi-formal occasions are no exception. Velvet is a quintessential winter fabric that helps bring interest to the simplest of outfits because of its unique texture. This long sleeve dark green swing dress (vintage from my mom!) is one of my favorite pieces and a perfect winter dress. I kept my dress the focal point of the outfit with opaque black tights and black pumps from Sam Edelman. To add some lightness and shine to the otherwise dark outfit, I wore gold earrings and bangles from Charming Charlie.

Dressy semi-formal can take a number of directions. I love semi-formal wear in winter, with deep jewel tones and rich fabrics. Velvet is perfect for this. Today I am wearing a berry-colored velvet dress from ASOS. I dressed the look down a little, but still kept it streamlined, with a simple black leather jacket (Target). I completed the look with black patent pumps (DSW) and ivory back-seamed tights (American Apparel). This look is minimalist with few accessories, yet still elegant because of the velvet.

I love velvet! I think both of these dresses are just stunning. I love the way the red dress was played down by the denim jacket. Great looks girls.

Hi ladies – Love the way you are rockin’ the velvet this week.
S… dear, dear S…. your mother isn’t old enough to be “vintage” but I do love the green dress. And is it the lighting or does your hair have a red tint to it now? I’m always on the lookout for fellow ginger brethren.
E – great juxtaposition of the sweet and sassy with the white tights and jacket.
Listen to your parents and make good decisions this week. Love and hugs, Mrs. B.
