Somehow Valentine’s usually creeps up on me before I’m ready. I think it’s because I’m still coming down off the Christmas high and exhaustion. But I’m often scrambling to come up with a frugal easy last-minute Valentine’s gift for the hubby. If you’re like I am, then here’s the perfect easy last-minute Valentine’s gift and it’s frugal, too (cost me about $.50). And not surprisingly, it’s a repurposed upcycled project, my favorite kind. (sheepish grin).
Before we got married I made hubby agree (and not much arm twisting went on) that we would only exchange cards and occasionally a small gift for Valentine’s and anniversaries. I’d seen too many coworkers at my office head off to the store on their lunch break on Valentine’s Day to find a gift for their significant other. Then the next day I watched them dejectedly returning the gift to the store because they had not been successful in meeting the high Valentine’s gift standard. I knew I didn’t want to go through that stress and I didn’t want to fall into the trap of putting hubby through that stress.
So the stress free result for me is that I get to make a sweet (pun intended) craft gift to give to hubby on the years when I have the time or energy to. It makes it more fun for me that way, and a bit of surprise for him.
This year, we’re on a tight budget so frugal is a necessity. And with a busy, busy life, easy is also a necessity. And if you’ve been around Organized 31 for more than about 2 minutes, you know it pretty much has to be a repurposed project. And because it’s Valentine’s Day, it has to involve chocolate. We’ve got all that here in this frugal easy last-minute Valentine’s gift and it only took about 10 minutes to make.
Supplies
Repurposed jar or bottle
Kisses candy (I got mine on sale after Christmas and just used the red and silver wrapped ones)
Red or pink card stock paper
Image (I got mine from The Graphics Fairy)
Embellishments (I used some ribbon and such that my mom had passed along to me when she cleaned out her stash)
Tape runner or double stick tape
I simply printed out my image onto the card stock and trimmed it to fit my bottle. I added Mod Podge carefully to the back of the paper (so I could keep the matte look of the paper) and positioned it on the bottle. Adding rubber bands holds the paper on the curved surface of the bottle until the Mod Podge dries, which only took about 20 minutes.
Then I simply added the ribbon embellishments, Kisses and a simple tag printed out on my printer.
Voila! For right around $.50, I can let my hubby know I love him and am thinking of him (just in case 26 years of marriage doesn’t tell him). The perfect frugal easy last-minute Valentine’s gift.

I just love this Valentines gift! I think a gift that is well thought out like this is so much better than anything you could buy at the store!
What an adorable and personal Valentine’s gift. Since these are so inexpensive, I might make a few of them and fill them with Hershey’s hugs for my kiddos.
Hi Susan – After 26 years of marriage, we all have a lot to learn from you (and BTW – did you get married when you were 3 years-old?!?!?). I love this idea and how absolutely perfect to say Happy Valentines Day. Frugal is sexy! Hugs, Holly
I really like this idea! It’s amazing how much some people spend on Valentine’s Day on stuff we don’t need/even want most of the time haha! A little DIY is always much more thoughtful as well 🙂
Hey! That bottle looks just liek our syrup bottle!!
I really like the image you came up with. Terrific!!
🙂

What a cute idea! That’s awesome that it only cost about $0.50. I love that you used the candy you bought at an after Christmas sale.
BRILLIANT!!!!!! Will be a GREAT IDEA for gift giving at Christmas time.
Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks, Hilda 🙂 Necessity was the mother of invention in this case. Happy crafting for Christmas!
