Sharing is caring!
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
When my children were younger (3, 7 and 10 years old), we would work on one of the fruit of the Spirit each week. We’d discuss what that particular fruit (trait) meant to each of us, taking into account their age and developmental stage. Then each child would think of a way they would work on exemplifying that fruit (trait) that week.
It was a beautiful exercise for our family. It was helpful for us to discuss each trait and for each child to hear how the others of us saw that trait applying to our lives.
Fast-forward 6 years (my babies are now 17, 14 and 10 years old) and I realized a couple of weeks ago that this was an activity that would benefit us all again.
Since I’m a visual girl, I whipped up some cards with each of the fruits of the Spirit on them.
I grabbed some “fruit” paper and solid-colored paper that I had.
And 5 minutes later (because I never trim my paper right the first time), I had 9 cards ready to go.
We started using the cards last week. It’s already generated more “good” discussions. And it helps us support each other in the challenges we face each day at school, work, home and life.
If I was the kind of mom that hung things on the front of the fridge, the card of the day would go there. Instead, I prop it up near our “command center” area in our kitchen. That way are remind of the fruit that we’re working on as we go about our day.

Wonderful – I love posting scripture and helpful hints around the house too!
Great idea. I think most people are visual if they admit it. It just makes a more permanent impression on your mind. It’s good to hear that even with older children you are teaching them this way. As we teach, it’s a reminder to ourselves.
