My blog friend and mentor Amy from One Artsy Mama is here today to help me out during our move and inspire you with her jewelry making ideas. I’m always admiring Amy’s jewelry projects but I haven’t yet been brave enough to try one. I think today’s project is going to change that for me. Hope it inspires you as much as it does me.
Hi there, Susan’s friends and followers! I’m Amy, aka One Artsy Mama, and I’m happy to be here sharing one of my favorite summertime creations with you today! A bit about me; my little family is made up of myself, my best friend/hubby, and our almost-5-year-old Little Crafter…and we all have one thing in common. WE LOVE THE BEACH!!! Every summer, we vacation in Myrtle Beach; this year we went in early June and had the fun experience of parasailing for the first time!!
We all enjoy building sand castles, playing in the ocean, and looking for seashells together. And more than anything, we enjoy just getting away from it all and having some quality family time together. It’s no wonder, then, that I love anything and everything that reminds me of our favorite place. That’s why I made myself a special charm necklace that makes me think of Myrtle Beach every time I look at it. Here’s how I did it, and you can too!
STARFISH BEACH NECKLACE
Materials:
– starfish charm
< span style=”font-family: inherit;”>- blue or turqouise bead
– small metal stamping disc
– jump rings and clasp
– head pin
– 18″ chain
– metal stamps, stamping block, hammer
– Sharpie marker
– jewelry tools: needlenose pliers, flat pliers, wire cutters
STEP 1: First, I used my metal stamping tools to imprint “MB” on my circle to represent our favorite vacation spot, Myrtle Beach. For a full tutorial on how to do that, go here!
STEP 2: Use a Sharpie and a polishing cloth to create an oxidized look. Just color over the letter, then rub off the excess marker.
STEP 3: Put your bead on a head pin, form a wire loop, and add a jump ring so you can put it on your chain.
Here’s how: place the bead on the head pin, bend the wire 90 degrees, trim, and use pliers to form a loop.
STEP 4: Thread the stamped disc, the charm {mine came from Michaels}, and the bead onto your chain. If your chain doesn’t already have a clasp, you’ll need to add one using your pliers.
Ta-da! Now I have a reminder of the beach that can go with me wherever I am this summer!
What about you? Where do you love to spend your summer days? I hope you have a summer full of sand, sun, snowballs, and everything you love best.
