I always stock up on school supplies during the back-to-school sales. This year I picked up a bunch of pencil cases for $.25. I wished I’d gotten more. In the past, I’ve put them, filled with school supplies, in care packages like Operation Christmas Child. This year when I saw the bright colors, I knew immediately I wanted to do something with them for Halloween. It also struck me that these are perfect to send to my daughter and her roommates in college as a Halloween care package gift. They’d also be fun to handout as an alternative to candy at Halloween.
I really do wish I’d bought more of these pencil cases when they were on sale. I can think of so many more projects I’d love to make with these. They come is such fun, bright colors.
Halloween Pencil Case
This is a perfect project to make with the kiddos because it’s easy and you can be as creative as you want. This is also a great project for using up some of those paper scraps you’ve been saving (tell me I’m no the only one with a box full of paper scraps!) You’ll need scissors, double-stick tape and googly eyes.
My friend, J., and I made these at our last craft get together. It was fun to see how each of us came up with such different Halloween characters. You can whip these up in just a few minutes each.
I’m going to send my daughter and each of her college roommates one of these boxes filled with candy. I think J. is giving one filled with candy to each of her children as a surprise for Halloween. But it would also be fun to hand these out as alternatives to candy on Halloween night.

I love these. Your kids are so lucky to have you and all of your wonderful and fun ideas! I would love one of these filled with candy! I have a couple of these in my sewing room – I keep a rotary cutter in one and scissors in the other. They are so easy to take to a class that way and I don’t have to worry about cutting myself!
