Summer around our house means friends and family drop by unexpectedly, sometimes even from out-of-town.  I look forward to every opportunity to entertain our friends and family and I want to be prepared for those unexpected opportunities.  You know me, I plan ahead for the unexpected.  I have a couple of  easy tips on how to prepare for last-minute entertaining that help me.

Each season I pick a fun festive color and purchase paper supplies for entertaining to have on-hand in that color.  This summer I chose a happy pink color and picked up plates, napkins and straws.  I also picked up a roll of coordinating washi tape. The coordinating washi tape is key to making my last-minute entertaining just a bit more special.

I already had a container that I’ve been meaning to repurpose.  I spray painted it white since white easily coordinates with my changing seasonal color for entertaining.

I’ve used this utensil caddy for entertaining through several seasons and simply change out the accent color washi tape.  For this summer’s entertaining, I added the new pink washi tape to the utensil holder and the newly painted container.

In just a couple of minutes, I’m ready to entertain any unexpected guests that may drop by with no stress or fuss.

You may be wondering what the newly painted container is for.  One of my entertaining tricks is to make sure that my guests can always find the spare roll of toilet tissue in the powder room.  It can be awkward for guests to search around looking for a spare roll if they need it (and no one wants to have to ask where to find the spare roll). I simply place the spare roll of toilet tissue in the decorated container and leave it on the counter or the shelf.  It’s easy to find, but still looks pretty.

Charmin is the only toilet paper I purchase for my family.  On the rare occasion that I’ve purchased another brand, I hear about it immediately from my family.  They prefer it because it’s soft and yet still strong, the two most important features you want in your toilet tissue.  Charmin also has a clog-free guarantee so I know my plumbing can handle my unexpected guests as easily as I can.  Roto-Rooter, America’s largest provider of plumbing and drain services, recommends Charmin more than any other brand and gives it the Roto-Rooter clog-free and septic-safe stamp of approval.  You can learn more on the Charmin website and by following them on Facebook.

I’m ready for any and all unexpected guests that will be dropping by this summer. Are you? What tips do you have to prepare for last-minute entertaining?

  1. Great ideas! I know that awkward feeling of needing more paper and not knowing where to look. Love the washi tape idea.

  2. Thanks for the tips! My husband likes to tell me that we are having company over, about 10 minutes before we show up, so your advice will be helpful!

We are Charmin users as well. 🙂
