I grew up in Hawai’i where St. Patrick’s Day isn’t such a big deal. But once I had children, I discovered how fun St. Patrick’s Day crafts and treats can be. This year I used an after Christmas sale find to make these Leprechaun Hat Treat Cups for St. Patrick’s Day.
I found these party cups on sale at the after Christmas sales at 90% off. I snapped them up, knowing I’d figure out a use for them later.
I also snapped up green and red candy at the after Christmas sales so that I could use it for Valentine’s and St. Patrick’s Day crafts.
This is a great craft for using up those scraps of paper you’ve been hoarding keeping. Cut strips of black paper to wrap around the cups as a hat band.
Be sure to curl the hat band around your fingers to make the paper curve. This will make it a bit easier to glue onto the cup.
I didn’t measure mine, I just cut the scrap of paper I had in fourths. Cut small squares from yellow or gold paper to make the buckle on the hat. I cut even smaller squares of black paper to glue onto the gold squares to create the buckle look (the yellow squares were too small to attempt to cut out the middle to make a buckle). I used craft glue to create the buckle and hot glue for everything else.
I lined the cups with plastic wrap to protect the green candy when I glued the hat brim to the cup.
Using the hot glue, carefully glue around the edge of the cup and then press the green circle hat brim down firmly.
How adorable are these Leprechaun Hat treat cups?! Sweet and adorable, right?!
I may not even let my kiddos open them to get to the candy because I’m so charmed by these little St. Patrick’s Day hats! (Ha, who am I fooling? I’ll just make them pay the mommy candy tax if they want to open the hats.) If you have 15 minutes, then you have time to whip up some of these easy Leprechaun Hat Treat Cups. Do you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?

such a cute idea!!
I love cooking and decorating for any reason. St. Patrick’s is one of those fun days we can spoil our family with some fun crafts and treats! I love these little goodie holders. I am sure your family loved them!
cute idea for a st patricks party
Thanks, Abril. I agree, they’d make great party favors.
These would be cute party favors! I hardly do anything for St. Patrick’s Day besides wear something green. This year I do plan on making one or two themed desserts though.
I never did much either, Christine, until I had kids (and a new craft opportunity). Themed desserts sound fun!
This is such an adorable idea! My older kids will have fun making these with me for the little ones. Love all the other St. Patrck’s Day treats too.
WOW! Such a cute and whimsical idea. Sounds like a fun project to do with the kids and would make a great party favor.
Thanks, Kamla. I’m going to have a tough time giving these away because they’re so cute. Luckily, it’s so easy to make more of them.
Thankyou. I work in the aged care as a lifestyle. This is a great activity for my residents.
I can just see a roomful of seniors’ smiling faces, Wendy. I hope they enjoy making this craft.
