This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Social Power for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
I make a real effort to buy products that are Made in America. I have a degree in economics and believe in the free market system. What makes free markets work is that consumers (that’s us!) let companies know what we want to purchase and how we want to purchase it. We influence the companies to meet our needs and desires. It’s called social power (power to the people) and it can be powerful.
For years, I’ve been making my one-little-self impact on the market by purchasing items Made in America whenever I could. You can read about my commitment {here}. I’ve decided that I want to used my hard earned dollars to support companies that support American workers. That is my choice. If enogh other shoppers made the same choice then companies would choose to manufacture in the US. There are many reasons why I choose to purchase items Made in America. In addition to supporting American jobs, there are more controls over safety and manufacturing here so it’s better for the workers, the environment and the consumer. I’m not judging anyone else’s choice, just sharing why I choose to buy Made in America products whenever possible.
You’d probably be surprised at how long it takes me in a store to sort through all the items to find one that is Made in America. Each product lists the information in a different location and often in very small print.
I stand in a store and have to look at each item on the shelf before I can then choose the item I want to purchase. Oh, and let me tell you, I don’t like to shop. So this is quite the commitment for me.
I would love if stores would identify items that are Made in America with a special price tag, either on the item or on the shelf. That way I could breeze into the store and immediately find my Made in America item and breeze out with it. I’ve been daydreaming of this shopping improvement for a while now. I’m telling you I really don’t like to shop so anything that would make it quicker and easier for me is truly a dream.
Social Power
Recently I discovered a way that I can try to make that happen. I can’t influence entire national store chains to change their pricing labels all by myself. But if I can band together with hundreds and thousands of other shoppers then I can make a difference. To quote an old commercial, “If I tell two friends, and they tell two friends, and so on, and so on.” Through social media today with your help I can reach out and find thousands of other shoppers who agree with me. Together we can make a change. This is called social power. Pretty cool, huh?
So, in the ultimate power to the people move, I’ve created a Social Power issue asking that stores clearly identify products that are Made in America.
It was very easy and quick to create my post. Coming up with the wording to communicate my issue took more time than actually using the website.
So now that I’m championing an issue, could you drop by socialpower.com and check out my post {here}. You can start by watching the short video that explains how Social Power works. Then I’d really appreciate it if you supported my issue by commenting on my post and sharing it with your friends through Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and any other social media you use by including the hashtag #SocialPower. That way other folks can find it and support my issue too.
I’m feeling very empowered right now. What issue do you support? You can do now and make your own difference in the world.
make a difference
Let me know if you create your own post on Social Power and I’d be happy to support you. Social Power to the people.
