This past weekend my family and my friend S.’s family got together for one last hurrah before they move to Denmark.  Isnt’ that exciting!?  Her husband is in the Navy and has orders to Copenhagen.  Is my envy showing?

We were talking over lunch and S. mentioned that she is going to go from room to room in her house and make a checklist of things that need to be done before they move.  What a brilliant idea.  I do something similar, but in a much more haphazard way.  I loved S.’s methodical approach.  So, S., this one’s for you, my friend.

I created checklists that you can use to review each room in your house as you prepare for an upcoming move.  By using the checklists, you’ll be able to assess exactly what needs to be cleaned, repaired and done before you leave the house.  By using the checklist, you make sure that you’re able to clear with your landlord or have your house ready to pass along to a tenant or buyer.

You can access the checklist {here}.

The entire process for reviewing your downstairs rooms should only take about 30-45 minutes.  Just take the checklist for each room and methodically review the room and note anything that needs to be cleaned or repaired.  Don’t get caught up doing the cleaning or making the repairs.  Although, if you have unpaid laborers children, you could have them follow you and wipe down doors, door frames, and light switches as you go.  That way you can scratch that off your list right away.  I’m all for built-in immediate gratification.

Once you have completed all the checklists, you’ll have a good idea of how much needs to be done before you move.

Ready? Set. Go!.

Next week, I’ll share the checklists for the upstairs.
