You may remember that 2 weeks ago I had the amazing opportunity to do an organizing demo at the Baltimore IKEA with a bunch of other wonderful bloggers; Amy from A Nest for All Seasons, Jeannie from Create and Babble and Amy from One Artsy Mama. During my demo, I shared ideas on how to decorate items to personalize them to your style and how to decorate one item 3 different ways. Today I’d like to show you the super easy and functional repurposed portable wrapping station I also shared during my demo.
It starts with the IKEA Variera trash basket. Just looking at this basket I can think of bunches of repurposed ways to use it.
Because I never know when the military will move us again, my moveable wrapping station is still a necessity. I dream of having a permanent and perfectly designed wrapping station. For now, thanks to the IKEA Variera, I have a portable wrapping station that I can store in my closet and carry to the table to use. It can also easily be disassembled for the next move if needed.
Using a straw (I’ll cut a dowel rod down to fit as soon as I have 3 free minutes), I was able to set the spools of ribbon up so that you can use them by just pulling the ribbon from the side of the basket. Why does that make me so happy? Maybe because it’s a preview of my dream permanent wrapping station.
For $4 and less than 5 minutes, you’ve got a perfectly functional portable wrapping station.
What other repurposed uses can you see in this IKEA Variera trash basket?

Hi Susan – Another great repurposing idea! I love the handle on this, makes it so easy to go from place to place as you need it to wrap presents. I keep my wrapping paper in an umbrella holder, but this is much more functional with the holes for the ribbon. Thanks for sharing! Hugs, Holly
The portability option is something I hadn’t considered before, especially when combining a way to store wrapping paper AND ribbon. I’ve seen smaller baskets used to store ribbon like you show here, but it’s sheer genius to keep everything all together!
This is such a great idea. My wrapping paper is everywhere and is such a mess. I love that you can just take it wherever you need to go and everything is there!
Awesome idea. I’ve never seen a trash can like this one in my area. Where did you find it? Thanks.
It’s from IKEA and you can order it on-line if you don’t have an IKEA close by.
