It’s that time of year when everyone is looking forward to spring. Are you familiar with spring symbolism, which is so much more than just warmer weather?

My oldest “baby” is in her first year of college and it’s been a rough winter in her part of the country.  I want to surprise my baby with a pick-me-up Spring College Care Package and share a crocheted shower pouf pattern with you.
Look at the weather my baby has survived while so far away from home.  If you’ve ever lived where the winter is brutal, you know that it wreaks havoc on your skin.  I try to send my baby  care packages every month or so and think this is the perfect time to send her a spring care package to pamper her.

While I was running errands yesterday (in anticipation of an impending snow storm in my part of the country), I popped over to Walmart to pick up supplies for the care package.

Supplies

Softsoap Fresh and Glow Body Wash

Nail Polish (in a fun spring-y color) – Share a link to these fun spring nails ideas.

Hand Lotion

Nail File (in a fun color or design)

Bright colored pens

Gum

Candy

Tea

Cotton yarn to make a handmade shower pouf (or you could purchase one)

I found the new Softsoap Fresh and Glow Body Washes in the Health & Beauty section. The Fresh and Glow Hydrating Shower Cream Body Wash will pamper my baby by hydrating her skin with milk protein, almond and coconut 100% real extracts (just what she needs after the brutal winter).  I also picked up the Softsoap Fresh and Glow Exfoliating Fruit Polish Body Wash, which contains apricot seeds, orange and kiwi 100% real extracts.   Soon Spring will arrive along with bare legs and short sleeves.  I know that my baby will appreciate having smooth, glowing skin.

Spring College Care Package & Crochet Shower Pouf Pattern

I was able to make this crocheted shower pouf in about 30-40 minutes.

Start with cotton yarn and a size F crochet hook.

1.  Chain 4 and join in a loop.

2.  Chain 1, *puff stitch (yo, insert hook into stitch, pull strand through, do the same 3 more times then pull your yarn through all loops on the hook, close the puff with a chain), chain 1*, repeat * 7 more times.

3.  Join with a slip stitch to the top of the first puff stitch and move with a slip stitch into the gap just before the first puff. 8 puff stitches created.

4.  *Chain 1, work 2 puff stitches into the chain 1 gap*, repeat *  repeat from * to * in each gap all the way round.. Note – create puff stitches only in the chain one gap space. Once you have 16 puff stitches, join with a slip  stitch to the first puff stitch.

5.  * Chain 1, work 3 puff stitches into chain 1 gap*, repeat from * to * in each gap all the way round. Note – create puff stitches only in the chain one gap space. Once you have 24 puff stitches, join with a slip  stitch to the first puff stitch.

Create 2 cotton pads.

6. Match up the edges of the 2 cottons pads and join the two pads together with single crochet stitches evenly spaced around the edge of the pads.

7.   Chain 12 to create a loop.  Join the chain loop to the first chain and tie off.  Work all loose yarn ends into existing stitch.

I chose to make these shower poofs in happy spring-y colors.  I made the pink one with just one cotton pad layer.  It’s a good weight to use on your face.  The yellow shower pouf is made with 2 cotton pads, so it’s a great weight for using in the shower.

The shower poufs are thick, soft and perfect for pampering yourself.

With more snow heading towards my baby’s college, I know she’ll appreciate receiving a care package that shows how much we love her (and miss her desperately) by pampering her.

Who do you know that would appreciate a Spring College Care Package?  Be sure to use my crocheted shower pouf pattern to add a special handmade touch to the care package.
