There’s a 7 year span between my oldest baby and my youngest baby (who is now 10 years old, yikes!). I remember being shocked at the improvements made in baby items in just 7 years. Strollers were more user-friendly. Diaper bags came in mom fabrics not just baby fabrics. There were so many improvements and today, 10 years later, there are even more improvements.
As a parent educator, I’ve always encouraged moms to nurse their babies if possible. When I had the opportunity to review the Comfort & Harmony Mombo Deluxe Nursing Pillow & Infant Positioner mombo nursing pillow, I asked my friend Emily at A Tossed Salad Life to use the pillow and give me her honest opinion. If you know Emily or me, you know that we’re honest girls. I nursed my 3 children for a total of 45 months and Emily is nursing her 2nd child and has 25 months nursing experience. Here you have 2 experienced hones women to tell you about the Mombo nursing pillow.
When the pillow arrived Emily and her son (nicknamed Monkey) were both excited by the gorgeous contemporary fabric cover. Mombo makes a variety of slipcovers so you can pick the perfect one or two for you and your decor.
When I used a nursing pillow with my newborns I remember needing to place another pillow under the nursing pillow to give enough support to the floppy nursing pillow and floppy newborn. Emily had the same experience. She said that the Mombo pillow would have been great to have in the hospital with a newborn because the “stuffing” is more durable and the pillow elevates the baby a little higher on your waist. Emily had a C-section and thinks the design of the Mombo pillow would make it an excellent postoperative pillow since it rests higher on the tummy (an important detail when you’re recovering from surgery).
The pillow has a different firmness on each side in a special design called Firm2Soft. One side is firmer and has cotton fabric for nursing. The other side is softer and has lovey-soft fabric for lounging comfort. Emily likes the feel of the lovey-soft fabric on the lounging side and wished that it was on both sides of the pillow for her baby’s comfort. She also felt like the soft lounging side of the pillow was perfect for Monkey while nursing(an older baby and experience nurser). To quote Goldilocks, “It wasn’t too soft and it wasn’t too firm. It was just right.” It provided enough support for Emily to nurse Monkey while working on her blog, A Tossed Salad Life. (this is true mommy blogging at its finest!).
Back in the day, I loved using my nursing pillow to help support my babies as they learned to sit up. It gave my mommy’s heart a little bit of peace that my baby wouldn’t conk his head every time he practiced sitting up.
After using the Comfort & Harmony Mombo pillow to help support Monkey while he was sitting, Emily feels that it is slightly firmer than other nursing pillows she’s used and it offers Monkey more support while sitting.
Monkey seemed to prefer the angle that the Mombo pillow provided when he reclined on it. He was even able to pull himself from a reclining to a sitting position, which is great for his trunk development.
The Comfort & Harmony Mombo Pillow is the only nursing pillow that comes with a vibration feature to soothe your baby while he’s lounging on the pillow. Monkey has never liked vibrations so Emily didn’t try it with him. But her other son (nicknamed Frog) did like vibrations as a baby and she feels that it would have been a great feature for him. I remember standing next to the running clothes dryer with my oldest baby in her car seat so that the vibrations would soothe her. I wish that I’d had the option of a comfy vibrating pillow for my baby (much more comfy than standing next to the dryer for baby AND for mommy!).
Emily was impressed with the quality of the pillow and feels like it’s a higher end nursing pillow.
