The first time I ever tried a tie-dye project was three years ago and I was immediately hooked. Now that I’m a tie-dye fan, this time of year with warmer weather means tie-dyeing to me. I’m always up for a new tie-dye project. My oldest “baby” wanted to decorate her college dorm room with tie-dye and so we made this tie-dye pillow together. It’s now one of her favorite dorm room décor items. Oh, and it’s easy to make, so you know I love it.

You want to tie-dye a cotton pillow case or other piece of cotton fabric. We loved how this pillow case came out in a sherbet-like color combo.
Tie-Dyed Pillow Supplies
Tie-Dyed fabric
Pillow Form – We used a 20 x 20 inch pillow form.
Cut your tie-dyed fabric to the dimensions of your pillow form + 1/2 inch. So for a 20 x 20 inch pillow, you’d cut the fabric to 20 1/2 x 20 1/2 inches.
Sew three sides of the fabric with a 1/4 inch seam. (If you plan ahead, you can cut your fabric so that the fold is one side and you only need to sew two sides.) Insert your pillow form and hand-stitch the opening shut.
In about 15 minutes, you’ve sewn your own tie-dyed pillow Look at how perfectly it goes with my baby’s dorm room decor. You may recognize the easy to sew throw pillow from a project my baby and I did a couple of years ago.
Have you ever made a tie-dyed pillow? I can’t wait to make more. In fact, I’m planning on sewing one for my craft room. Can’t wait to show it to you.
