To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, I’ve gotten together with some blog friends to share fun St.Patrick’s Day ideas. If you know me at all, you know that my idea involved an upcycled craft project. This time it uses upcycled yogurt cups for St. Patrick’s Day treats. They’re very easy and almost free. So let’s leap right in.
You’ve probably figured out by now from my long list of craft projects using recycled food containers, that I’m unable to open a container in the kitchen without contemplating a craft project use for it. I just hate to throw something out (even if it’s into the recycling bin) if I can find another use for it. So recently when I was eating yogurt, it struck me that these containers are shaped much like a leprechaun’s pot of gold.
Right after that revelation, my friend, J., came over to craft with me. I asked her to help me come up with St. Patrick’s Day-ish looks for these little yogurt cups. My original idea was to paint the cups green and add a belt with a gold buckle around the middle. Wel-lll, that idea didn’t work out at all. So those yogurt cups went into the recycle bin.
Next J. and I decided to try some repurposed green tissue paper. (You’ll see the lighter green paper used in a Mardi Gras project tomorrow). We tore the paper up into little pieces that were roughly square or rectangular in shape.
We decoupaged the paper onto the cups using Mod Podge. The paper is very delicate and tore easily. I found it easier to use my finger to apply the Mod Podge to the paper, but J. used a sponge brush and was very careful.
We were chatting away so this probably took us 15 minutes, but it should have taken about 5 minutes to do.
The cups looked a little plain so we added some ribbon embellishments. Mine turned out like this (you’ll see J’s tomorrow). I added Rolos to fill the cup because they look like gold coins.
Next J. and I decided that we wanted even quicker-to-make treat cups, so we added repurposed ribbon to the bottom of a yogurt cup with double-stick tape.
And added stickers that J. already had to another yogurt cup.
For only the cost of some Rolos and chocolate Kisses and in less than 20 minutes, we made 3 upcycled yogurt cups for St. Patrick’s Day treats (plus, one Mardi Gras cup).
Thanks for your help, J.! Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

I totally want a Rolo right now 🙂 and these are super cute!
I absolutely love this idea! So creative and perfect! Pinned this and checking it out from in and out kitchen link party! 🙂

These are adorable, quick question though, how’d you get the cups white, did the label just wash off easily? Thanks in advance!
Thanks, Lily. They are yogurt cups with plastic labels that just pull right off (no troublesome glue residue).
