Lately, I’ve noticed simple clear square storage jars at the Container Store, Bed, Bath & Beyond and Target. I’m a new convert and believer in square or rectangular containers. It’s amazing how much wasted space you can save because the containers fit tightly together.
I’ve been longing to start a herd of square storage jars. But since we could be moving again next year and who knows what our next house will be like, I’ve been depriving myself. Until about two months ago when I bought a new brand of popping corn. Interestingly, it’s the Harris Teeter organic brand, which is cheaper than the name brand non-organic brands. As I was carrying the first emptied jar to the recycle bin, I looked down and what did I see?
A beautiful square clear storage container about to be thrown out. Hmmm. This just might work. So instead of recycling it, I washed it out. I took the time to scrape the label off the first one. As you can see, I still need to scrape the label off the 2nd jar (but rest assured that it HAS been thoroughly washed out!).
Space is always tight in my pantry, so I like that I can turn these on their side and stack them.
I’m thrilled with these new storage containers. If they don’t work at our next house, I can just recycle them. But for now, they work perfectly in my pantry and have allowed me to start my herd of square storage jars. And if you come to my house for a visit in the near future, I hope you like popcorn. We’re eating a lot of that around here lately.
