With 5 people in our family (1 with an unpredictable military schedule), a dog and a leopard gecko, life can get a little crazy around our house. Keeping track of everyone’s schedules and activities can be much too difficult at times In our family, the kids don’t get a cell phone until 8th grade. But this year to help reduce stress just a little, my son the family is getting a cell phone thanks to Walmart Best Plans. It’s the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for the entire family (and a gift that will be enjoyed long after Valentine’s is over). The Unlimited Talk Text and Data/Web plans met our needs perfectly. And best of all is that it does not require a contract (this rebel of a mom, really dislikes cell phone contracts!).
Although, in our family the kids don’t receive a cell phone until 8th grade, I really needed a way to be able to keep track of my younger son with our family’s busy schedules. He has the obvious commitment of school and the important commitment of hanging out with friends. But in addition, he has hockey, guitar and chess club (oh, and his 2 sisters have a slew of activities and commitments, too!) Giving him the family a cell phone for Valentine’s Day, will be a great surprise for him and will make keeping in touch during busy days much easier for the entire family.
My family used to have a family contract cell phone plan. Long story short, I will never go back to contract cell phone plans. You give up your freedom, all for a “free” phone. I much prefer to purchase my own phone and then be in control of my own cell phone plan decision-making. I knew that Walmart offers a variety of cell phones for under $100, which is a great price, especially if you don’t have the budget for a more expensive phone or plan. So I headed over to the electronics section of Walmart.
I found the Walmart Family Mobile Plan section and chose the Evolve smart phone for only $79.00. That’s a great price for a smart phone! This time of year, you could even use your tax refund to purchase your phone and plan.
Be sure you also purchase the Starter Kit for $25 so that you can activate your phone. The sales clerk activated the phone for me right there at the counter. In less than 5 minutes I purchased a new cell phone, had it activated and working.
The Walmart #FamilyMobile Plan offers two different options. You can choose unlimited talk and text for $29.88 a month or unlimited talk, text and data for $39.88 a month. I chose the Unlimited Talk and Text plan for now because that meets my son’s family’s needs to be able to stay in touch.
The phone fits perfectly into the upcycled Valentine’s boxes I made for the kids this year.
A new cell phone and great savings – what a nice Valentine’s surprise for you or a loved one!

I need to look into this. I have felt so trapped by our family plan. We all got our phones at different times so in order for us to switch carriers, we’d have to buy out at least 2 contracts.

It is so comforting to know that your child has a phone. I think in today’s time, we need to always have a way to reach them. Glad you found a great plan that will work for your family.
