Over the past several months, I’ve been working on building easy healthy living habits into my daily routine. Ever since my unexpected appendectomy in the fall, I’ve been taking steps to add more healthy habits to my everyday life. I’m a busy mother of three, so I need easy habits I can really work into my busy day and stick with or honestly it just isn’t going to happen. So easy healthy living habits it is.

My lifestyle has always been somewhat healthy, not the worst but not the best, either.  But when I was recovering from my appendectomy last fall, I had lots of time to think about my health and what steps I can take to live a healthier lifestyle. I realized that I have the knowledge, but I need to make the commitment. When I learned about the Nature Made® 30-Day Healthy Habit Builder Program, I knew that now is the time for me to commit to easy healthy living habits

Build Easy Healthy Living Habits

Make a Commitment – Take sometime to decide what healthy habits are important to you. Talk with your doctor, research healthy living ideas, and pick two or three habits that you want to work on.  I’ve chosen to focus on drinking more water, snacking on more fruits, vegetables and nuts and taking my vitamins consistently.  My doctor has recommended that I take vitamin D every day to combat a vitamin D deficiency and so I’m committed to building that healthy habit in addition to a vitamin C tablet each day.

Did you know that as an antioxidant, vitamin C helps neutralize free radicals in the body and also plays an integral part in the synthesis of collagen, which helps support healthy skin?† And I’m happy to learn that the Vitamin D 3 found in Nature Made vitamin D supplements is the body’s preferred form of vitamin D. Vitamin D3 is more effective than vitamin D2 at raising and maintaining adequate levels of vitamin D in the body.†

Set Up Reminders – Set up reminders to help you remember your healthy living habits.  I make notes in my calendar and set alarms on my phone to help me remember to take my vitamins and drink more water.

Set Up Your Environment – Make it easy to remember your new healthy living habits. I set my vitamins in a pretty container on my kitchen counter next to fridge. This helps me remember to take them every moring.  I make sure that I purchase lots of fresh fruit and vegetables each week so that I have them available.

Make It Easy – Make it easy, so you have no excuses. Each morning I set bowls of fresh fruit and nuts out on the counter. By keeping these healthy snacks out on the counter, they’re the first thing I see when I walk into the kitchen craving a snack. With the snacks right out in the open and easy to access, I find I’m increasing my healthy snacking and reducing my unhealthy snacking each day.

Make it Fun – Take steps to make your new healthy living habits fun so that you’ll want to continue them. I take simple steps like putting my healthy snacks in a pretty bowls on the counter. I also find that drinking seltzer water with bubbles more fun than drinking tap water and that encourages me to drink more water.
